But He gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).
Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful (James 5:11).
God’s goodness forms the unshakeable foundation for James’ positive outlook concerning trials and temptations (James 1:2-17). Building on this, James devotes most of his letter to how we reflect God’s grace. The clearest reflections are seen in how we care for the needy and for our brothers and sisters in Christ. “The Lord is compassionate and merciful,” and the wisdom He gives has the same quality.
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere (James 3:17).
