In this course, each Bible lesson ends with biblical wisdom—usually a practical tip—for maintaining unity. Relationships can be challenging because individuals differ by nature. Each person has a complex personality shaped by unique experiences. Bringing diverse individuals together in healthy relationships requires great wisdom. But it must be spiritual wisdom, not earthly wisdom (James 3:13-18). Diligently seek wisdom and understanding (Proverbs 2). Begin with fervent prayer. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously” (James 1:5).
Part of that wisdom is to anticipate and to prevent problems. “The beginning of strife is like letting out water, so quit before the quarrel breaks out” (Proverbs 17:14). Before a dam breaks, there are usually signs of potential trouble. Cracks and small leaks develop. How unwise to wait until the dam bursts and lets out destructive floods. How much better to act immediately to make early repairs. The same is true with relationships (Proverbs 6:1-5). As Jesus instructs us, “First be reconciled to your brother. … Come to terms quickly” (Matthew 5:24-25).
