Unity finds its source in the one God. Yet not all unity pleases God. To understand God’s kind of unity we first recognize that God also divides. Examples of divine separation include the flood of Noah’s time and, in Moses time, God’s design for the tent of worship and the Aaronic priesthood. God’s perfect purity and holiness separate Him from sinners. The Good News is that God loves us! By His Son’s death, He has removed the separating barriers of sin and the Law. Christ’s cross reconciles Jews and non-Jews with God and with each other. Ephesians is God’s welcome letter to non-Jewish believers. Along with believing Jews, they—and we—are God’s true children and heirs, fully united in God’s one family “in Christ.”
