Love the truth! Seek the truth! Hold to the truth! Regardless of the pressures, keep choosing truth! If you choose otherwise, God will let you have your choice. Indeed, He will push you in the direction you have chosen. “God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false.” What a frightening prospect! We must become serious about being honest with God’s word and with ourselves. If we are to be completely open to what God is trying to tell us, then we must set aside our own wishes and ideas (cf. Matthew 16:21-24).
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding…. Be not wise in your own eyes (Proverbs 3:5,7).
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death (Proverbs 16:25).
I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps (Jeremiah 10:23).
Love for truth guards against lies. The believers of Berea had this attitude. When Paul came to their town, He preached Jesus as the Messiah. His Jewish audience was glad to hear his message. Yet, even when hearing Paul, they were also cautious not to fall for lies. They tested everything Paul was saying. They checked his message by comparing it with the Old Testament Scriptures.
Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so (Acts 17:11).
