When the Son of God arrived on earth, how were people to know who He was? In part, they could recognize Him by His extraordinary miracles. To prove that God was working through Jesus, Peter pointed at Jesus’ power.
[Peter said,] “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves know” (Acts 2:22).
Jesus’ “mighty works and wonders and signs” were so powerful that there could be no other conclusion: God sent Jesus! The evidence was plain for all to see, as Peter boldly reminded his large audience in Jerusalem: “God did [these miracles] through Him in your midst, as you yourselves know.”
Peter’s evidence was so strong that, on that very day, 3,000 believed and were baptized (Acts 2:37-41). Many more, however, did not believe—despite hearing that same evidence from Peter. Why is that? Partly because of the influence of another person with power, Satan.
