God has a purpose for history. He “works all things according to the counsel of His will” (Ephesians 1:11). God has given to people the ability to choose. They can stay in God’s way and live or they can stray and suffer the consequences. But, stay or stray, they cannot interfere with the fulfillment of God’s plan (Job 42:2; Isaiah 14:27).
What is God’s purpose? It is summed up in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. For many centuries, God kept His overall plan a secret.
The mystery… was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen. (Romans 16:25-27)
When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. (Ephesians 3:4-5)
