We are caught up in a world that treats sex like a god. People treat sex as if it is every person’s right to engage in any sexual relationship, they wish to be involved in. A serious Bible student wants to know what God teaches about sex. In writing to the Corinthian church, Paul clearly discussed the idea of sex outside of marriage. He told them that people who do wrong will not enjoy God’s kingdom. He listed many sins that people do such as “those who sin sexually…those who commit adultery…men who let other men use them for sex or have sex with other men…” He told the Corinthians that many of them had done those sexual sins, but because they had turned to God, He had made them right again. (I Cor. 6:9-11). Paul continued to say that “You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything.” My answer to this is that not all things are good…Someone says, ‘food is for the stomach, and the stomach for food.’ Yes, and God will destroy them both. But the body is not for sexual sin.” (I Corinthians 6:12-13)
WHAT IS SEXUAL SIN?
In the scriptures we read above, many sexual sins were discussed.
Fornication is sex between two people who are not married.
Adultery refers to someone who is married who has sex with a person they are not married to.
Homosexual refers to sex between two people of the same sex—man to man or woman to woman. (Romans 1:26-27)
Pornography is also a sexual sin. Pornography is movies, books, and songs whose purpose is to arouse sexual desire by looking at, reading about, or hearing about sexual sins of other people. Pornography is very harmful to healthy marriages and should be completely avoided.
