Many people are disappointed in Jesus because He has not brought world peace. They think His reign failed or never began. But the Scriptures paint a different picture: The Christ rules “in the midst of His enemies.” He reigns right now, and “until” His enemies are subdued. But His reign is not forced on people. For whom, then, is the promised peace and unity? For those who come to Christ, who hear His voice, who walk in His rules. Which is to say, for those within His kingdom who submit to His reign. They have the same mind—the mind of Christ. They speak the same things—the words of Christ. They take seriously the warnings against other voices that pull them in different directions. They do not create unity by human effort. Rather, they fit into the unity already inherent in following “one Lord.”
