The Bible describes many, many facets of this future glory, this “one hope.” Those who die in the Lord will experience the resurrection of their bodies to become like Christ’s glorified body (1 Corinthians 15:42-49; Romans 8:11; Philippians 3:21; 1 John 3:2). Those alive at Christ’s return also will be changed and made immortal (1 Corinthians 15:51-57). Then God will share with His children eternal life filled with all His “immeasurable riches.”
[God] raised us up with [Christ] and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6-7).
He will show the immeasurable riches of His grace.
The greatest blessings of grace we enjoy here are a foretaste of the future. The wonderful things we see in this creation are but “a whisper” of far greater glory (cf. Job 26:14). Our sense of worthwhile work here is just the beginning of far greater service there (Revelation 7:15). Satisfaction with accomplishments here prefigures our Lord’s congratulation there, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” The purest pleasures here only hint at entering “into the joy of your Master” (Matthew 25:23 cf. Psalm 16:11). Even our sufferings here are filled with hope because of what they are preparing for our future.
For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison (2 Corinthians 4:17 cf. Romans 8:18).
