To many modern minds, “one baptism” is offensive and unthinkable as a pillar of unity. Religious groups have made baptism a divisive battleground. But Christ has a different perspective. After His resurrection, He commands baptism for all who would become His disciples. True to His Great Commission, the New Testament repeatedly refers to “all” believers receiving baptism. It unites all Christians because it is a shared experience with a vital purpose. As seen in Matthew 28, it transfers believers into the possession of the one God, the one Lord and the one Spirit. As seen in Mark 16, Acts 2, 22 and more, it is directly linked to salvation. What makes it so essential? Christ’s death which removes sin, destroys barriers and unites in one body. “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?” Unlike modern minds, New Testament believers would respond, “Yes, we all know that.”
