Our “bad news”—our worst news—is that our sins cut us off from God who gives life. Separation from God means death for us. That is why we see disease, destruction and death throughout the world. Worse, when we have gone through the pain of physical death, spiritual death awaits us in eternity. Imagine complete and total isolation from God.
The soul who sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:20).
… death spread to all men because all sinned (Romans 5:12).
For the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience… (Ephesians 2:1-2).
Death comes in two different forms: the death of the fleshly body and the death of the spirit (cut off from God). The Event of the Good News defeated both kinds of death for us.
