This act of rebellion against God by Adam and Eve brought sin into the world. Through that sin many curses and sufferings have entered also. God is so holy and pure that he could not simply act like nothing had happened. The evil mind of disbelief and rebellion came into the creation through Satan—he tempted the man and woman. What did God do? Let us read:
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” Genesis 3.8-11
God did not remain at a distance from man and woman. He came near to seek them out. When God asked where man was, this does not mean that he did not know where they were. Instead, it shows that God was telling man to be honest about his sin. God knew everything that had happened. He could have judged and destroyed the man, woman and Satan. However, that would allow evil to overcome good. God took action. He made a judgment and said what was needed. Read about the curse of God:
So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, “Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life… By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3.14-19
This is the beginning of sorrows in this world – curses, pain, death, sorrow, trouble, wars, hunger, and confusion. By believing Satan’s lies, the man and the woman were controlled by Satan. Our human father and mother submitted to the will of Satan rather than to the will of God. With the sin came the chance for Satan to hurt mankind through the curses that God gave as judgment on sin. From that time until now, man became fearful of judgment and punishment for sin. The world became full of fear, and we became the targets of Satan’s attacks as he tries to control the world for himself today.
