The heavens and the earth were made to honor God because he formed everything for his glory. God did not create this universe just to show his power, but also to show his holiness and greatness. His creation submits to him, and gives him glory and honor. Mankind, men and women, are part of his creation. We are made to show a small part of what God is like so that we, too, will show his glory.

As we saw above in the words of Prophet Moses (Musa), God said his creation is good (Genesis 1.31). He also said that his creation is to grow and be a source of blessing (Genesis 1.22, 28). God told man and woman to care for the earth so that his blessing would bring goodness and life to the earth. Read the words of Prophet David (Daud) in the Psalms (Zabur):

What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8.4-9)

Man has been given a job to do: to oversee, develop and use the creation in the right way. This brings glory to God and fulfills the purpose for which God created all things. As man cares for the earth, God will be glorified. Man should live with the kind of character and worship that God planned for him. Read the words of the prophet Moses:

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1.27)

Mankind was created in the image of God. This does not mean we are the same as God. Never! We are spiritual beings with a sense of morality (knowing right and wrong). We have intelligence (a mind), and we have a soul that ties us to the eternal nature of God. We can learn from God through his Word. We are also able to talk to God in prayer and worship. We were created to think, live and serve as spiritual beings. After God created man, God saw that his creation was “very good.” Mankind is unique (very special, only one of its kind). There is nothing else in creation that is like human beings.
