The deeper we travel into “grace,” the more it amazes us. The further we explore “adoption,” the more we become lost in wonder and awe. The words may be simple to say, but their meaning rises to unreachable heights:

…even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will… (Ephesians 1:4-5). M

Does Paul realize to whom He is writing? Does Paul recall our family history? Does he remember who brought us up, and what kind of “sons” we were? Yes, for Paul himself reminds us,

…in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience… (Ephesians 2:2).
