World Bible School’s foundational curriculum, called the Master Series, has seven interactive courses: An introduction called The Way; a Gospel summary called This Is Good News; faith-building courses called God Has Spoken and Knowing Jesus, the Gospel and its response entitled Born of Water and Spirit, and two maturing courses, The Family of God and Live a Life of Love. When seekers in an area enroll with WBS, they usually work through the Master Series, whether in paper or online. As they complete one course, it is graded, then they receive the next course in the series. The WBS Study Helper’s role is to be a friend and encourager to the student, reviewing answers, and helping with the student’s questions. The Study Helper also works with the WBS network to get Follow-up for responsive students.
If you have access to WBS booklets, you may find them useful for your personal work. Supposing a suitable situation, here is an example of how a booklet might help: Give a copy of a WBS booklet to your friend, suggesting that he or she may read the lesson to be discussed. Later, at your appointment, you study the Bible using that lesson. If your friend reads ahead and has reflections or questions, the personal study will be all the more fruitful. Of course, the WBS booklet is only a study guide, which is useful only as it points to the Bible itself. Some people are not readers, and some have not developed enough interest to read ahead. The important thing is using the approach that works best for their stage of interest and their abilities. In any case, as you prepare your own lesson, you may get useful ideas from WBS materials. See how they present the Gospel, then adapt the approach as seems best for your opportunity.
