Most often, Jesus uses ordinary believers to reach ordinary folks. He uses our various experiences to connect with others who have similar experiences. He uses disciples with problems to help people with problems. Think about those used by Jesus during His time on earth.
- Jesus frees a self-destructive madman from demons, then says to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you” (Mark 5:19).
- Jesus reveals important truths to a woman married five times and living with a man who is not her husband. She introduces her village to Jesus. “Many Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony” (John 4:39).
- Jesus casts seven demons out of Mary Magdalene. She then helps to support Jesus and the disciples (Luke 8:2-3). She meets the risen Christ and carries the first news of His resurrection to the apostles (Matthew 28:1-10; Luke 23:55-24:10).
- Jesus chooses and trains ordinary men to be His apostles. He turns Galilean fishermen into fishers of men (Matthew 4:18-19). According to Matthew 10:1-4, His team includes men of opposite backgrounds: Simon the Zealot (previously fighting against Roman rulers) and Matthew (previously working for Roman rulers). The latter, also called Levi, is a despised tax collector who reaches other despised people (Luke 5:27-32).
