Think about trying to meet the world’s most powerful president. How would you get such an appointment? If the president responds well, what could be accomplished? Now, multiply that privilege and power infinitely to glimpse what access to the Creator means. He dispenses with calendars and urges us to pray “at all times” (Ephesians 6:10 cf. Luke 18:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:17). Even a beginning faith has great effect.

Truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you (Matthew 17:20).

Recognizing the awesome power offered to us, we devote ourselves to prayer (Acts 1:14; 2:42; Romans 12:12). We ask for spiritual eyes to see the extent of His love and “the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe” (Ephesians 1:15-20 cf. Ephesians 3:14-21). We pray to “the Lord of the Harvest” for more harvesters (Matthew 9:37-38). We give Him all our worries (Philippians 4:6; 1 Peter 5:7). We ask for wisdom (James 1:5). We request the right words and the boldness to share the Gospel effectively (Ephesians 6:10-20). When persecuted, the first disciples seek, not escape, but greater effectiveness. They pray,

“Now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to Your servants to continue to speak Your word with all boldness.” … And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. … And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus (Acts 4:29, 31; 5:42).
