We become better channels by …
- purifying our thoughts and behavior (2 Corinthians 1:12; 4:2; 7:1),
- reducing obstacles that interfere with the message (1 Corinthians 10:32; 2 Corinthians 6:3),
- becoming familiar with God’s word, representing it faithfully, fairly and persuasively (1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 2:14-15),
- focusing on, and passing along, what the Bible clearly teaches and most emphasizes (Matthew 23:23; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4),
- avoiding human traditions and speculations (Mark 7:5-9; 1 Timothy 1:4; 2 Timothy 2:14, 23; Titus 1:1),
- positioning ourselves as fellow-learners, willing to change as we learn more from the Scriptures,
- and honestly admitting when we don’t know the answer to a question, then researching the Bible’s answer.
In these ways, we become cleaner, more open, and more effective as channels for God’s word.
