These four steps that Abraham and his servant used to find a wife for Isaac are good steps even today for young people to use: 1) find a believer, 2) pray about the choice, 3) set some criteria, and 4) get parental consent. One other thing that the family did was they asked for Rebecca’s consent. They did not force her to go against her will. We read further in Genesis 24:
57Then they said, “Let’s call the girl and ask her about it.” 58So they called Rebekah and asked her, “Will you go with this man?” “I will go,” she said.
Seekers should never try to force another one to marry them by telling them that God told them that they were to marry this person. God’s Word reveals His will. And God’s Word is for all. Marriage is a mutual decision entered into willingly, joyfully.
