When Abraham had reached a very old age, he wanted to find a good wife for his son Isaac. Remember that Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born (Genesis 21:5) so he was extremely old when his son was of a marriageable age. Therefore, he asked a servant to help him in the process of selecting a wife for him. However, whether a person chooses a mate for himself or the parent chooses for the child, we will see that the process can be the same.
It is the parents’ responsibility to train their children so that they will learn to put God and His will first in their lives. This would include making a decision on whom to marry; they would want to make a choice that would help them serve Him all the days of their lives (Genesis 18:19).
