Moreover, Jesus proved the truth of His claims by miracles—healing impossible case s, raising the dead, controlling nature—supernatural powers that exceeded anything in history. Long before, God gave Moses miraculous powers to show that God had sent him. Through Moses, God promised to send another prophet like Moses (Deuteronomy 8:15, 18-19). No one had matched that description (Deuteronomy 34:10-12). Now, watching Jesus, people had to ask, “When the Christ appears, will He do more signs than this man has done?” (John 7:31). As eyewitnesses, they realize that Jesus must be the long-awaited prophet and Messiah, resembling—even surpassing—Moses in authority and power.
Moses said, “The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to Him in whatever He tells you. And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.” And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. (Acts 3:22-24)
“Listen to Him!” Why? Because He is God speaking to us. To ignore Jesus is to ignore God and to be cut off from God’s people.
The one who rejects Me and does not receive My words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge Him on the last day. For I have not spoken on My own authority, but the Father who sent Me has Himself given Me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. (John 12:48-49 cf. John 8:28)
The word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent Me. (John 14:24)
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. (Hebrews 1:1-3)
