As we advance in Bible knowledge, guard against pride. “‘Knowledge’ puffs up, but love builds up” (1 Corinthians. 8:1). The truth is not a weapon for putting people down. It should always be delivered with Jesus’ heart “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15). Be sensitive to where people are, and what will help them to move forward. Even after some time with His disciples, Jesus said, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16:12). Make sure that your progress in gaining information is matched by growth in humility and gentleness (2 Corinthians 10:1; Galatians 5:23; 2 Timothy 2:24-25; James 3:17-18; 1 Peter 3:15). Even within the Lord’s church, members grow at different paces. So, develop the Christ-like attitudes that nurture unity.
Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit…. (Ephesians 4:1-4)
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another…. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. (Colossians 3:12-13, 14-15)
