God made it clear that obeying his laws would bring great blessings to the people. They would become his faithful servants:

Be sure to keep the commands of the LORD your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you. Do what is right and good in the LORD’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers, thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the LORD said. Deuteronomy 6.17-19

As we read the laws that God gave through Moses in the Taurat, we see that every part of life was led by rules and ideas of justice, goodness and morality. The people had a clear picture of what God wanted them to do. There were marriage laws, work laws, land laws, inheritance laws, worship laws, sacrifice laws. There were laws to give them good health and laws for sharing with the poor. There were laws to prevent using people and being greedy.

From such laws, we can see that God wants his people to be honest and truthful. God wants the earth to be filled with blessing. He has made the world so that these blessings are real. When we are faithful to God’s commands we shine as a light for others to see the goodness of our God. We become his faithful servants. We follow the purpose of creation—that the world should show the glory of God by submission to his will.

Here are some of the great sayings of the Law of Moses. These were given to protect the holy covenant between God and his people by guiding the people in right paths:

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6.4-7

This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years… Deuteronomy 30.19-20

The Law of Moses showed that God is one. It showed that he should be worshiped according to his holiness, with respect and submission. God put the choice of blessings or curses before the people. The choice is the same for us now, too. If we obey God, we are blessed. If we choose to go the way of the world, then we are cursed.
