Throughout this period of royal rule, lists of officials in 1 and 2 Kings appear to be entirely male (examples: 1 Kings 7:13; 8:1-3; 12:6-8; 16:1; 18:3; 21:11; 2 Kings 10:5; 18:18, 37; 22:12; 23:1-2). The same holds true for the Chronicles (examples: 1 Chronicles 9:34; 11:10; 26:30-32; 2 Chronicles 1:1-2; 11:22-23; 17:7-9, 14-18; 19:8-11; 25:5; 29:12-15; 31:11-15; 34:8-13, 29-30).

Even the recorders or court reporters are males. One might think that male recorders are just a matter of culture, but they are prophets and seers, and that is God’s choice (1 Chronicles 29:29; 2 Chronicles 9:29; 12:15; 13:22; 33:20). Both Chronicles are characterized by extensive genealogies and lists that 16 times reflect this statement from 1 Chronicles 9:9, “All these were heads of fathers’ houses according to their fathers’ houses.”
