Today, our cultural context is shrill and strident. The sheer volume makes it all the more important to step away from the world’s clamoring voices. Be still and know that God is God. Be still and hear His voice. Let His word speak for itself. If you passed over the Scriptures superficially, feel free to go back over them. Absorb them. Digest them. What do they actually say, as compared with what society says? What do they actually say, as compared with what theologians and experts want them to say?

After you review the New Testament passages in the previous lesson, “Mission to the Gentiles”, here are some questions to consider:

  • Taken together, what do you see as their overall message?
  • Do these passages share a common theme?
  • Do they flow naturally from the survey of the Bible you have just completed?
  • Is there anything new or surprising?
