If so, prepare for a life of humble surrender. Love leads to submission because of who Jesus is. He is “Lord of all” (Acts 10:36), the King above all kings.1

…that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come (Ephesians 1:20-21). 2

Do you recognize how supreme His rank is, and how absolute His authority? If so, you will direct your love for Him into the deepest channels of respect and absolute obedience.3 “If you love Me,” says Jesus, “you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Indeed, in obedient love you meet the Son and His Father most intimately, and bless His children most effectively.

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.…” Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him (John 14:21,23).

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments (1 John 5:2). M
