Jesus Christ said that he was the fulfillment of the kingdom of God on earth. By his total power over all things, Jesus showed clearly that the kingdom of God had come.
Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. But some of them said, “By Beelzebub, the prince of demons, he is driving out demons.” Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven. Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because you claim that I drive out demons by Beelzebub. Now if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your followers drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you. Luke 11.14-20
The false teachers of the Jews and those who opposed Jesus were always trying to deny his authority. They also tried to deny his goodness. In this case, they said that Jesus’ power over demons was because of knowledge of evil magic. Some claimed that his power came from the chief of all demons, known to those people as Beelzebub. however, Jesus made it very clear that his power was from God. God’s power in Jesus and the defeat of Satan are the clear signs of God’s kingdom among men. Jesus’ purpose on earth was to show us the kingdom of God through his life and prophetic message of truth and goodness. This is why Jesus began his work with this message:
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1.15
