Jesus was challenged in every way when he showed his great power and claimed to speak for the God of the Universe. Many people thought, and sometimes still think, that Jesus would become a political leader, a ruler of nations. Jesus made it clear that he did not seek the power of earthly government. Instead, the kingdom he rules is different:

Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17.20-21

Within us? Yes. Jesus tells us here that Kingdom of God is not a human kingdom. The kingdom of God is his leadership and authority in the lives of people as they submit to his will and follow the path of life. We can see that the Bible clearly shows us that God sent Jesus Christ to give us a picture of himself. The work, teachings, miracles, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are all part of this great communication from God. Through Jesus, God shows us what he really values for man. Jesus is the expression of the kingdom of God in this world. In him we find all that is necessary for the kingdom of God to exist.
