Paul soon provides the answer.
Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God (2 Corinthians 3:4-5).
In other words, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). God is for us. He proved that by giving His Son. No one defeats God. Therefore, “in all these [trials] we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:35-37). This is not victory “apart” from threats. Rather, we are winners “in” all our troubles. “Christ always leads us in triumphal procession!” (2 Corinthians 2:14 cf. Romans 8:37; 1 Corinthians 15:57; 1 John 5:4).
