When God created humans, He gave them only one mouth, but He gave them two ears.  Maybe God expects us to listen more than we talk.

James the Lord’s brother said, “My dear brothers and sisters, always be more willing to listen than to speak…”  (James 1:19)

The wise man said, “Let people finish speaking before you try to answer them…”  (Proverbs 18:13)

Listening is an art.  A good counselor is a good listener.  In a strong family, a father wants to know what his wife and children are saying and feeling.  He listens with both of his ears so that he can answer his family well to encourage them and give them good advice.  When the parents demonstrate an attitude of active listening the children will also develop that skill.
