Jesus was sure about His relationship with the Father, and He was also sure that prayer to the Father had real results. When Jesus was about to raise Lazarus from the grave He instructed the mourners to remove the covering from the grave.

So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. I knew that You always hear Me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that You sent Me” (John 11:41-42).

He knew the power of His prayers. He repeatedly gives us similar confidence about our prayers.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you (Matthew 7:7).

Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I among them (Matthew 18:19-20).

Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:22-24).

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you (John 15:7).

Absorb the meaning of these astounding assurances. Look who is speaking. This is the Lord whose all-powerful word created and sustains the universe (John 1:1-3,10; Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 1:3). His word empowers the new birth, making you a new creature (John 3:5; 6:63; 2 Corinthians 5:17; James 1:18, 21; 2 Peter 1:23). He who never lies chooses His words with care—yet He promises so boldly in such plain language! You may doubt many things about your own weakness, but never doubt the absolute truth spoken by the mouth of God’s sinless Son!
