We pray that Almighty God will bless you with a clear vision of the power and goodness of Jesus Christ. We pray that the powers of evil, sickness, fear and slavery may be broken in your life through the power of Jesus Christ.
DOES JESUS WANT US TO FIGHT?
Some people say that Jesus called for the use of the sword to fight in his cause. They look at his words as recorded by Matthew:
Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn “a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.” Matthew 10.34-36
However, in the case of the cutting of the ear of the high priest’s servant shown in the lesson (Luke 22.49-51), we see that Jesus did not want his followers to take up swords. When he talks about the sword, he does not mean for Christians to take up swords. He is saying that the sword will come upon them from their enemies. Jesus wants us to respond to violence with faith and love for all people. It is true that the words and faith of Jesus Christ cause swords to be used. But they are the swords of violence against the followers of Jesus. The world hates the truth and fights against it. No follower of Jesus should ever pick up a weapon to fight in the name of Jesus. Here is how the Apostle Paul explained it:
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. Second Letter to the Corinthians 10.3-4
A SPIRITUAL WAR
Jesus Christ showed us the reality of the spirit world. There is a spiritual war taking place. This war is between all that is good and holy on one side, and all that is evil and violent on the other. As followers of Jesus, we know from the Holy Bible that we are fighting against Satan and his forces of evil. Jesus made this clear by defeating evil spirits and casting out demons to solve human problems. The Bible says:
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Apostle Paul, Letter to the Ephesians 6.12
