We pray that God will bless you with a faith like David’s and wisdom like that of Solomon. We pray that the temptations that come on all men, just as they did on David and Solomon, will be kept far from you. We pray that you will have victory over Satan so that you can know and submit to the king that was promised to David and Solomon.

GOD’S HOLINESS SHOWS RIGHT AND WRONG

God used his prophets David and Solomon to tell many deep truths. One of the most important and helpful is the fact that God is holy. Our choices in life can be seen as right or wrong by looking at God’s holiness. Sin is not simply a matter of what God dislikes. Things are sinful because they go against the heart of God, and they go against his will for mankind. Read what these prophets said, for it is from God himself:

The LORD reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. Great is the LORD in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them praise your great and awesome name—he is holy. The King is mighty, he loves justice—you have established equity; in Jacob you have done what is just and right. Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy. Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the LORD and he answered them. He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud; they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them. O LORD our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds. Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy. David, Psalm 99.1-9

There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet thatare quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. Solomon, Proverbs 6.16-1

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Prophet Solomon, Ecclesiastes 12.13-14

The Lord God’s holiness is very clear in all of the Bible. But when speaking of sin, it is also clear that God is most compassionate and merciful. He removes the shame of sin from those who trust him and put themselves into his hands. God has showed so much about himself in the Bible—his honor, his love, his grace, his power, his justice, and his desire and purpose for creation. He is a God of faithfulness to his promises, and these promises show
what he is like. God’s work in the lives of men like David and Solomon show us that he wants to save the world with truth and righteousness. However, he always gives us the freedom to choose the right or wrong path:

The LORD is compassionate and gracious; slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. David, Psalm 103.8-14.
