Our search for music’s meaning now brings us to the Person who is the climax of all history. He is David’s long-expected descendent, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is Immanuel, which means “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). Everything in Old Testament law and history points to Him. Jesus assures us,
For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote of Me. (John 5:46)
Jesus fulfills all that has gone before. He comes for the very purpose of fulfillment.
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. (Matthew 5:17)
All the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days [of Jesus as the Christ]. (Acts 3:24)
