Remember John’s contrast between the two covenant leaders: “The law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17). Jesus is God’s way of speaking to us (Hebrews 1:2), God’s bright path to truth. Jesus assures us,

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12)

If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:31-32)

I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6)

2 Corinthians 3 contrasts the two covenants and explains why some misunderstand what they read.

Their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the Old Covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:14-17)

Christ is the key to clarity! Turn to Him, and your vision will be clearer. That does not mean your work is over. Think of yourself as a prospector who has spent frustrating years searching the hills for precious metals. Then you discover a rich vein of gold. But your productive work has just begun because even the best gold reef must be mined. Jesus is the rich source, which leads to diligent work in the word (2 Timothy 2:15). Like the miner finding more and more gold, that work is pure joy! Paul knew this, so he wrote to Christians,

[I pray] that you may be filled with the knowledge of [God’s] will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding…. [I struggle to help you] to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 1:9; 2:2-3)
