Next, God stated that in marriage a man is to be “united to his wife.” The word “united” has many similar words that describe it, such as “joining” or “bonding.” The word God spoke showed a permanent lasting relationship. For a man to be joined to his wife shows a relationship that is not to be broken. The “bonding” is like spreading glue on a paper then sticking another paper to it. It is like welding two pieces of metal together to make one piece. When Jesus repeated the definition of marriage, He added something else,

For this reason, a man will leave his father and his mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So, they are no longer two, but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate (Matthew 19:5-6).

Jesus clearly stated that marriage is forever, it is not to be broken. Do you, or will you, have problems in your marriage? Yes, you will! All marriages have problems. God says don’t let your problems lead to a breaking of your marriage by divorce. Perhaps when you got married you repeated some promises or vows to one another, such as “until death do us part” or “I will be faithful to you.” Those promises were stated to show the permanent relationship in marriage. It is not to be broken.
