If the Spirit lives in every member of the church, then it follows that He also lives in the church as a whole. In 1 Corinthians, Paul’s discussion turns to those who harm the church by their divisions. In that context and speaking of Christians collectively, He writes,

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple (1 Corinthians 3:16-17).

“God’s Spirit dwells in you.”

In Ephesians, Paul shows how Christ brings Jews and Gentiles together into one body. In this context of unity, He reveals the role of the “one Spirit.”

For through [Christ] we both [Jews and Gentiles] have access in one Spirit to the Father. … [In Christ] the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In Him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit (Ephesians 2:18, 21-22).
