Do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is! See Ephesians 5:17.

Do we have any idea of how tiny we are in this vast universe? Do we realize how little we really know about the complex creation around us? If so, we may also begin to glimpse how little we know about the mind of the Creator behind creation. Ignorance about spiritual things runs deeper than we might think. Beyond the simple fact that we are physically weak and finite is the fact that we are spiritually fallen and needy. Not only are our minds limited in their reach. In our sinful or fallen state, our minds are also affected by sin.

Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart (Ephesians 4:17-18).

Paul bluntly reminds you, “You were once darkness” (Ephesians 5:8). In other words, the darkness did more than touch you. It became your nature. The fallen person is darkness.
